Quick Guide to Canada Immigration

If a person is married to a permanent resident in Canada, they can also apply for permanent residency based on this and through their sponsorship. This has many benefits, one of which is that the partner moving to Canada can seek and take on work without any restrictions.


If your parent or parents are permanent residents they to can sponsor you, conditions apply that you will have to be under the age of 22 years or depend on them financially. If you are related to a Canadian citizen or permanent resident there are also certain situations in which you may be sponsored for a Canadian visa.

Entrepreneur and Investor visa

Canada immigration is also applicable to those who fulfil its business criteria. If a person has a net worth of over $800,000 (CDN) and is willing to invest $400,000 (CDN) they may be granted a visa under the investor programme.


The Canadian entrepreneur visa is also an option for this type of person, although the amount would be lower at $300,000 (CDN), they would however be required to have at least 2 years of management experience. This type of visa is aimed at people that will start a business in Canada.
An application through the business route only allows you to apply for one of the options; it cannot be switched once submitted.

Other Canadian Visas

The most common way in which people immigrate to Canada is to have an offer of employment - employers can be found across the Internet through agency websites, they are easy to find and will guide you in the right direction. Another common route is to have experience in one of the relevant skilled occupations - the list of occupations that are featured in the skills list changes intermittently, currently the list varies from health-care professionals to IT workers.

Even though Canada accepts upwards of 250,000 immigrants every year, Canada immigration can at times be tricky to navigate. Deciphering the various immigration paths and deciding which one is applicable to you will speed up the process of moving to Canada. Applications can easily be refused for a variety of reasons, in 2008 almost half of submissions to Canada immigration in the business and skilled worker groups were refused.
