Dubai Expat Warning

A senior police official has told Arabian Business that it is not the force's aim to restrict the freedom of expats in Dubai but that limits of decency must not be crossed.

Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, deputy chief of Dubai Police, said that while it was not the duty of police to interrogate couples in Dubai, if they are spotted committing obscene actions then police would intervene.

His comments in an interview with UAE daily Gulf News published on Monday, come after several incidents of public indecency, which prompted the British Foreign Office to issue a travel advisory for its citizens.

Working As A Doctor In Australia

Work as a Doctor in Australia

When you think of Australia, you might think of the Harbour Bridge, endless beaches and the never ending outback. However Australia also has tropical rainforests, alpine villages, country towns and deserts. Not to mention buzzing, cosmopolitan cities such as Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Seeing all of Australia is not something you can do in a quick trip, and considering its distance from places in Europe or the America’s, a quick trip just isn’t practical for many visitors anyway!

This is what makes being an expat in Australia so fantastic. You get to live in Australia, earn money, and take the time to travel all over the country.

If you are a qualified doctor, you can work in permanent or locum doctor jobs all across Australia, getting a feel of the different styles of the country, and earning a great income at the same time.

Beat Medical is a medical recruitment agency connecting doctors with jobs all over Australia. Whether you want a laid back tropical lifestyle in sunny Townsville, or an exciting life in the big city of Sydney, Beat Medical can connect you with the job that is right for you.

Working in Australia is a dream for many international doctors, however there are numerous logistical, bureaucratic and administrative hurdles they have to overcome first. Beat Medical assists doctors through not only identifying suitable jobs for them but also helping with all the other steps involved in becoming established as a doctor in Australia.

Doctor Job Applications in Australia
The job application process for doctors in Australia may be very different to that used in a candidates’ home country. We have years of experience in helping present our doctors in the best light, giving them every assistance to become the right candidate for their dream job.

We can also help identify the right jobs for you and put you in touch with the ‘hidden’ employment market – those jobs which are not advertised

Negotiating Contract and Pay in Australia
Expats new to Australia may not have the knowledge, confidence or experience to be able to negotiate themselves the best deal possible when accepting their new job. Beat Medical knows the market inside out, we know what our candidates are worth. We will negotiate for the best conditions on your behalf.

Finding a Place To Live
Do you want to live near the beach, near mountains, near rainforest or farmland? Do you like the feel of a small country town or big city life? The choices of where to live and work as a doctor in Australia are endless.

While making the decision of where to live can be exciting, what is considerably less so is the consideration of things like leases, rent prices, bonds, establishing utilities, and the countless other administrative tasks which need to be undertaken when you move into a new home. Beat Medical can help you with all these tasks, smoothing your big move, and making sure you can concentrate on your new job and enjoy your new home.

Professional and Legal Requirements For Working In Australia

Finally, before you are permitted to work as a doctor in Australia you will have to ensure that you have the applicable working visa, recognised qualifications and medical registration.

There are numerous professional and government bodies involved in this process, but Beat Medical simplifies the process for you, working with them on your behalf.

General Practitioners and Specialist Doctors qualified in the United States of America, Canada, United Kingdom or Ireland, may be eligible for full recognition as a fellow, while graduates from other systems may be eligible for partial recognition.

Whichever category you fall into, if you want to in Australia as a doctor, Beat Medical can provide the support you need to make it happen.

Can I Retire on the Beach, and Even Afford a Maid?

"Can I retire on the beach, and even afford a maid?"

Answer: Yes, if you're retiring in Mexico! And for less than you probably think ...

If you've ever been sick of cleaning your house, washing the dishes or sweeping the floor, here's some good news; if you buy a Mexico home, and live here either part time or full time, you can hire a cleaning lady for a very reasonable price, and enjoy knowing that your home is clean, making living in Mexico as relaxing as it should be.

What's a reasonable price?  Try $17 per day!  (That's 200 pesos at the current exchange rate.)  These services can be hired on a monthly basis, or for a given number of days each week – established at the time of hiring.

Besides taking care of the complete task of cleaning the house, it is standard in Mexico that cleaning ladies will run errands, pick up food from the grocery store, take care of the kids, iron the clothes, do the laundry, etc.  It is considered completely normal to ask the cleaning lady to help you with these little tasks during the course of the day, and many of them can be a normal part of a daily work routine.

Many cleaning ladies will also cook.  Since cooking is still a very strong part of tradition, passed down from generation to generation, it is a real treat to enjoy real Mexican food, as authentic as it gets, on a regular basis.  Standard American food will also be on menu easily enough.

Of course, as an employer, you'll want to be fair.  The pay of 200 pesos/day ($17) is a fair wage in Mexico.  Especially if you hire full time, that means your cleaning lady is earning 6000 pesos ($500) a month, which is a little less than the average personal income in Mexico, and is considered by many to be a good income.

Some condominium complexes or retirement communities will offer cleaning services.  This arrangement would not include the extras, but it's convenient, saving you the trouble of finding someone.  On the other hand, if you want a cleaning lady who will be more involved in various activities in your household, you'll probably want to go to the trouble of finding just the right person.

The obstacle; these people won't speak English.  If you don't speak Spanish you'll have to find a bilingual expat (or bilingual Mexican) friend to help you hire, and explain what work you want done.  If it's a very set routine, and you won't be asking for any extras, you probably won't encounter too many problems.  But again, in the case that you want someone more involved in helping out more, make sure you find some one who isn't afraid to try to understand you.  With time, you'll pick up more Spanish, and she'll pick up the basic vocabulary in English as well!

The convenience of a cleaning lady will make life on the beach the relaxing experience it should be!

Mind Your Language - The Foreign Family Vacation - aka Trial by Fire

Learning a language is difficult at the best of times. One’s head fills itself with words and sounds; some of which are correct and others which are just noise. This challenge is ever the more exacerbated in times of stress. I just spent the past four days in San Andres, Colombia putting myself through the troughest of tests; a vacation with my foreign girlfriend’s family.

I forget sometimes how short a time it has been since I’ve been speaking Spanish. Yes I took a couple university courses in Spanish, and vacationed and studied a little bit in Central America and Mexico, but it really has only been about a half a year where I’ve really put myself through the rigour of learning the language. I’ve gotten to the point that when my mouth opens or I type on the computer the first words that spill out are, for better or for worse, in Spanish.

Dubai: The Infantile Boyfriend

If Dubai was a person, it would be the Infantile Boyfriend.

You know the kind, we've all had one - he's that bloke who was always late, never remembered your birthday, took the seat at the cinema with the clear view leaving you sitting behind the giant with the huge bouffy head, never gave you the last most chocolately bit of his Cornetto and never, ever apologised.

But however irritated and heartbroken you became at his shoddy treatment, you put up with it because he was, frankly, totally gorgeous -so hot that he left a trail of open-mouthed drooling women in his wake, all of them giving you the evil-eye because they wanted your arm-candy. And when you were with him, despite the fact that he was a major sh*t, you had a whole heap of fun. Infantile Boyfriend, like all self-obsessed juvenile delinquents, can always be relied on to ramp up the excitement factor. If it suits them, of course.

The Ultimate Travel Companion?

The new iPhone iOS4 has been dubbed the ultimate travel companion for its upgraded camera, easy multi-tasking and longer battery life...

But some users have already reported problems, particularly with the gadget's mapping functions, which obviously provides an issue for those relying on the phone to navigate their way in foreign climes.

Users have discussed the problem on web message boards, claiming that when trying to move around maps or zoom in, they have trouble with the screen freezing in places.
'Panning the map in iPhone OS 4.0 causes tiles to freeze up. Some tiles will move but some will stay frozen. Same happens with zooming,' reported one user.
